Youth Leadership and Teacher Professional Development Program with Bosnia and Herzegovina

Program Overview

YLPLogoMagee Womancare International (MWI) is in its eighth year of administering Youth Leadership Programs funded by the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and its second year facilitating the “Youth Leadership and Teacher Professional Development Program with Bosnia and Herzegovina.” This is a competitive U.S. based exchange. The delegation will consist of 18 youths and 3 adult teachers from three cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Program Goals:

Promote mutual understanding between the people of the U.S. and the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Prepare young leaders to become responsible citizens and contributing members of their communities by developing their leadership skills.

Nurture a cadre of students and teachers to be actively engaged in addressing issues of concern in their schools and communities upon their return home and equip them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to become citizen activists.

About Hosting:

Students are 15-17 years old.

Delegates speak English fluently.

Delegates have U.S. Government health insurance.

Mandatory host family orientation in March.

Host families need to create a quick 3-5 minute video clip introducing their delegate to all family members, a tour of their house, and the bedroom(s) in which their delegate will be staying.

Host families provide a bedroom (can be shared with separate beds), breakfasts and most dinners, inclusive family time and support, and transportation if you reside outside the city limits.

Opening ceremony– evening of Saturday, April 15th, 2017

Closing ceremony– evening of Friday, April 28th, 2017.

Delegates attend program activities Mon. – Fri. 7am-5pm, but will have evenings and 3 weekends free to spend with your family.

Your family will be invited to attend fun cultural events with your delegate(s), like Pirates baseball and U of Pitt Nationality Rooms.

Ideally, families will host 2 delegates. If you can only accommodate 1, we still welcome you to apply.
