Featuring Sheila E. and Benefiting Women’s Health at Magee-Womens Research Institute

Pittsburgh, PA – Women will rock Stage AE Pittsburgh on Thursday, May 30th, during women’s health month. Tickets are on sale now for the 3rd annual Women who Rock™ Benefit Concert Presented by UPMC Health Plan and UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital. Proceeds benefit Magee-Womens Research Institute (MWRI), based in Pittsburgh, the nation’s largest research institute dedicated solely to women’s health.

An event experience like no other, Women who Rock rolls out the pink carpet, featuring an all-female fronted music lineup with this year’s headliner the legendary Sheila E. One of the most talented percussionist/drummers and performers in the world, Sheila E. has performed and/or recorded with Prince, George Duke, Herbie Hancock, Billy Cobham, Marvin Gaye (on his final world tour), Diana Ross, Lionel Richie, Gloria Estefan, Patti LaBelle, and Steve Nicks among others. In recent years, Sheila E. has served as drummer of Ringo Starr’s All Star Band and musical director for the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce’ Knowles. Her producing, arranging, and performance talents have been showcased on the Latin Grammy Awards, Summer Olympics, WOW Awards, ALMA’s, The Image Awards and the Academy Awards. Sheila was nominated for an Emmy Award for “Outstanding Music Direction” in recognition for her leadership as musical director for President Obama’s Performance at The White House: Fiesta Latina.

The music lineup also includes some of Pittsburgh’s best women in music featuring performances by “God Daughter of Soul” Lyndsey Smith , DJ Jess, the award-winning women’s a cappella Sounds of Pittsburgh Chorus, and a performance from this year’s Rising Star Contest winner Melina Bowser, a current student at North Allegheny High School.

Women who Rock VIP ticket holders will also have the chance to meet Milena Roucka (former WWE superstar Rosa Mendes) and receive a VIP gift bag valued at $500.

Rock DJ Michele Michales of 102.5FM WDVE will emcee this powerful night. Concert attendees will
also experience an interactive Beauty Bar offering beauty perks and giveaways, the “Queen Bee” Photo Booth, and Silent Auction featuring a meet & greet with Heart on their upcoming Love Alive Pittsburgh tour date. A custom piece of Prince artwork created by Luca Paganico, that will be created live during the concert, will also be available to bid on.

Kelly Frey from WTAE will return as last year’s “Women who Rock Award” recipient, to present the 2019 award to Dr. Sharon Hillier, Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and Magee-Womens Research Institute . Dr. Hillier is an internationally recognized microbiologist whose work has influenced an entire field of research based on the intersection of women’s health and HIV prevention.
