Funds from clothing sales support Women’s Auxiliary programs like Magee Auxiliary Research Scholar and the Bright Star Award, which provide newer Magee-Womens investigators with funding to establish their initial data.
Magee-Womens Research InstituteGrants Fueled by The Clothesline
Since 1976, the Women’s Auxiliary has donated approximately $6.1M to support women’s health research through revenue generated from sales at The Clothesline.
Due to this generous funding, Magee-Womens has been able to provide support of many research projects, including:
- MARS Scholarships – Magee Auxiliary Research Scholarship which is a three- year award to a junior investigator and provides startup funds for their research.
- A two-year fellowship which provides training and research experience in reproductive biology and development supporting graduate students and fellows in the Health Sciences Schools of the University of Pittsburgh.
- Support of Translational Research for UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital residents/fellows performing joint research at Magee-Womens Research Institute.
- Research support of naked mole-rat colonies to characterize the role of aging and reproductive status.
- Bright STAR awards have been created for to aid the next generation of scientists through supporting the best and brightest young stars dedicated to women’s and infant’s health research. This award will fund a one-year research project for one of UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital’s residents or clinical fellows preforming research under the guidance of an MWRI Principal Investigator
- Support of research regarding chemoresistance in ovarian cancer cells and additional support which measures the effect of a novel three-drug combination therapy for ovarian cancer.
