Running for Women’s Health Is a Marathon, Not a Sprint: 2023 Pittsburgh Marathon Activities Convened Magee Champions

More than 20,000 runners hit the streets on Sunday, May 7, 2023, for the 15th Annual DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon.

Leading up to the weekend’s races, several community activities brought together women’s health champions from Pittsburgh and around the country.

UPMC Magee Marathon Nursery Event May 3, 2023

To celebrate the Pittsburgh Marathon’s 15th anniversary, the UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital nursery transformed into a starting line, where a group of newborns sported running bib onesies and crocheted booties crafted by Caitlin Pechin, RN, and her team of UPMC nurses.

Made possible through a collaboration between P3R, Magee-Womens Research Institute & Foundation, and UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital, the event generated buzz and excitement ahead of the Marathon weekend, while welcoming Pittsburgh’s tiniest Future Runners of Steel to the world.

The adorable event even made a digital channel feature via Good Morning America. Special thanks to our partners for making this event possible.

How much women's health trivia do you know?

During the 2023 Pittsburgh Health & Fitness Expo, participants, friends, and family members lined up at the Magee booth and took a spin on the women’s health trivia wheel to test their knowledge and learn more about the life changing research at Magee-Womens Research Institute. Giveaways included magnetized runner safety lights and portable rain ponchos.

Expo attendees also got a chance to be among the first to register for this year’s Race to Beat Women’s Cancers 5K Run/Walk set for September 3, 2023, at North Park.
