Research in Brief
For nine months the placenta supports the life of a developing fetus and is essential for a successful pregnancy and a healthy baby, but it is also poorly understood. Dr. Mouillet is studying a family of genes that are exclusively expressed in the human placenta and may hold the keys to understanding some of the unique functions of the placenta.
