Katie McConnell is a breast cancer survivor who underwent all her treatment at Magee-Womens. She credits her incredible team of oncologists, surgeons, nurses, family, and friends for helping her navigate this journey.
During her treatments and recovery Katie found that running played a crucial role in supporting her health and wellness.
“Running helped me so much during my cancer treatments and continues to help me now. To me, it’s therapeutic and rhythmic — time for myself to process what is happening.”
Katie has given back to the hospital that saved her life by running as part of the Magee-Womens Run for a Reason charity team during the annual Pittsburgh Marathon.
Having worked at Magee-Womens as a nurse for 10 years, Katie knows firsthand the impact this institution has on patients' lives. For her, running for Magee-Womens was a natural choice – a heartfelt way to support women's cancer research and give back to the place that means so much to her.
