“For every woman who has felt isolated in her health care journey—you aren’t alone. I’m here too.”
Katie Porta knows firsthand how lonely a health diagnosis can feel. After years of unexplained symptoms, she was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) in 2024. While finally having answers brought relief, she quickly realized how little is known about PCOS—and how isolating the condition can be.
Thankfully, she found support at the UPMC Magee-Womens Center for Fertility and Reproductive Endocrinology. “It has become my safe space—providing the guidance I need to navigate my diagnosis and plan for the future,” Katie says.
Her experience has fueled a passion for advancing women’s health research and improving care for all women:
"Through my journey, I’ve learned how powerful it is to have a supportive community. Magee-Womens gave me that—a place where I can find other women who may feel just as isolated in their health journey, and together, we can lean on each other for support.”
