Seeds of Hope Luncheon Held to Support Women's Cancer Research
May 23, 2022
Friday's Seeds of Hope luncheon at the Kahkwa Club is helping to support women's cancer research.
Researchers and experts presented information on the latest advances in cancer research during the event.
The luncheon started in 2017 when Diane Mitra launched a grassroots effort in Erie to bring awareness and funding to gynecological oncology research.
Seeds of Hope supported the creation MOMI Database and Biobank in Erie, creating understanding of maternal and infant health. This later helped to launch Magee-Womens Research Institute (MWRI) Erie, which brought women's health research in the world, here in Erie.
Mitra passed away in 2021, but one-half of all sponsorships from the luncheon will go toward the annual Diane Mitra Seed Grant, which will support promising new women's health studies at MWRI Erie.
