Nursing Home Obesity Toolkit

Welcome to the Nursing Home Obesity Toolkit.

In nursing homes across the country, about one in three residents has obesity. Caring for residents with obesity is problematic for your staff and facility, and care is different in many ways from care for people with normal weight. Quality outcomes for residents with obesity are lower, and care for residents with obesity is more expensive.

For these reasons, we have created this website and toolkit: to promote better care, better outcomes, and lower costs for residents with obesity. We have provided resources to help with admissions, daily care, preventing complications, costs of care, and resident satisfaction.

Many nursing home administrators, directors of nursing, and nursing home staff have provided feedback to make this Nursing Home Obesity Toolkit as useful to you as possible.
